Goal Setting
Goal Setting information and tips
Goal settings are an important and necessary organizational part of our life. Some people
will say that they never set goals but they do so unconsciously. Even if you say that you do not specifically set
goals you do each time to decide to do something. These are probably just small goals but going to the grocery and
making a shopping list are goals you want to accomplish. Some goals are set on a large scale Goals regarding a
career or career change. When to marry or when to buy a house, are all goal settings.
Success and failure are all dependent on goal settings. In theory, when you set a goal to
accomplish something and you don’t succeed it may be because you did not follow up on it. If you set a goal toward
something and follow through it will be a success. When a goal is set it is for something that you want very
heartedly to accomplish so you will plan a strategy [his is called organization] and follow through. A goal,
although it is set, is not set in stone and the strategy can change as you follow your goal.
A good way to set a goal toward something you want to accomplish is to first determine if this will
be a long term goal or a short time goal. For the sake of this article let’s say that you have decided it would be
a short term goal. Using a journal whether paper or computer set a date on which the goal will be accomplished. In
that journal write the necessary steps you will need to take in order to meet this goal by the determined date. If
you follow these steps faithfully you will accomplish your goal. I don’t believe that I should have to say the goal
should be realistic. Your goal should not be skydiving if you are afraid of heights.
Education plays an important part of career goal settings. Do you have the proper education for the
career you want? If not than one of your goals should be for more
education with a degree in the career you want to have. Are you emotionally and physically equipped to be
successful in your chosen field? If the answer is no than see what you can do to prepare yourself. If you cannot
correct either of these blocks than plan a goal to find some diversity in your career plan which will not change it
drastically.
Goal settings are all easily done in theory but it’s harder to put yourself through the necessary
paces. Following up a goal you have set for yourself, whether short term or long term, will take a lot of
organization together with a lot of patience and perseverance. The idea of setting a goal for yourself may be
frightening but when you do set a goal and watch it progress the feeling is one of accomplishment and success.
Don’t procrastinate set a goal today.
